We are all unique and we all grieve differently. On this page, I have added some resources which may be of some help to you. The list is by no means exhaustive but I hope that here, you may find additional sources of support and comfort which resonate and are right for you.
Cruse Bereavement Care
Cruse Bereavement Care is the leading national charity for bereaved people in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Their vision is that all bereaved people have somewhere to turn when someone dies and their mission is to offer support, advice and information to children, young people and adults when someone dies and to enhance society’s care of bereaved people.
Child Bereavement UK helps children and young people (up to age 25), parents, and families, to rebuild their lives when a child grieves or when a child dies. They also provide training to professionals, equipping them to provide the best possible care to bereaved families. Their vision is for all families to have the support they need to rebuild their lives, when a child grieves or when a child dies.
SANDS (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Charity)
Sands is the leading stillbirth and neonatal death charity in the UK. Sands exists to reduce the number of babies dying and to ensure that anyone affected by the death of a baby receives the best possible care and support for as long as they need it.
Sands provides bereavement support services both nationally through its Freephone helpline, mobile app, online community and resources, and locally through a UK-wide network of around 100 regional support groups. Over the years, it has grown into a national charity with a powerful vision, to create a world where fewer babies die, shared by dedicated volunteers, fundraisers, members, donors, healthcare professionals, partners, staff and bereaved parents and families.
Compassionate Friends
The Compassionate Friends (TCF) is a charitable organisation of bereaved parents, siblings and grandparents dedicated to the support and care of other similarly bereaved family members who have suffered the death of a child or children of any age and from any cause. They offer support, both directly to bereaved families, and indirectly by fostering understanding and good practice amongst professionals concerned with child death and by increasing public awareness. In TCF, “family” covers a broad spectrum of relationships. We aim to help any individual or family affected by the death of a child, including unmarried partners, adoptive parents, step families, same sex couples and single parent families.
RoadPeace
RoadPeace is the national charity for road crash victims in the UK. They provide information and support services to people bereaved or seriously injured in road crashes and engage in evidence based policy and campaigning work to fight for justice for victims and reduce road danger. Their vision is for a world where road danger is not tolerated and where road crash victims receive justice and compassion.
Blue Cross Pet Bereavement Support Service
The Pet Bereavement Support Service was launched in 1994 to help grieving pet owners. Since then it has helped thousands of pet owners of all ages and from all walks of life. Volunteers, who have all experienced the loss of a pet and have completed a training course on how to help you, respond to calls and emails every day. They offer a listening ear and guidance on coping as you work through your loss. The Pet Bereavement Support Service also offers practical information on pet loss for friends, family members and others who have contact with pet owners.
Cats Protection Paws to Listen
Cats Protection have produced a range of resources, information and support to help you at this very difficult time. Whether you are facing the heartbreak of your cat’s death, want help with difficult issues like euthanasia, have a cat who has gone missing or need someone to talk to about your loss: we are here for you.
The British Horse Society – Friends at the End
Friends at the End is a British Horse Society (BHS) initiative designed to make sure that no horse owner has to face the loss of their equine companion alone. Friends at the End was launched in response to pleas from owners who felt isolated and unsupported during the time every horse lover dreads. Through this initiative, BHS Friends at the End has helped many owners either before, during or after the loss of their beloved horse. All of the Friends at the End team have lost horses themselves and received training from bereavement counsellors, so they have a genuine understanding of the loss and grief that come when a horse dies. They aren’t there to take the place of a counsellor or vet, but they can offer an extra source of support. At the hardest time in a horse owner’s journey, Friends are available to make it as smooth and straightforward as possible. If you feel that you might benefit from talking to someone through the Friends at the End scheme, contact BHS Welfare on 02476 840517 or friendsattheend@bhs.org.uk and they will put you in touch with your nearest Friend.
