Introduction

The law requires me to tell you about your rights and my obligation to you in regard to the processing and control of your personal data. This privacy policy sets out the conditions under which I may process said information that I collect from you, or that you provide to me. It covers information that could identify you (“personal information”) and information that could not. I take seriously the protection of your privacy and confidentiality and your personal data will not be used for any purpose other than that set out below. This policy complies with UK law (the Data Protection Act 2018) and that required by the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Except as set out below, I will not share, or sell, or disclose to a third party, any information collected either from you directly, via your agent(s) or through my website.

What personal information would I receive?

Currently, the personal data I would collect and process on you is:

Your name and surname
Postal address
Telephone (mobile and landline if applicable)
Email(s)
Relationship to the deceased
Why do I need this data?

Most of the personal information I process is provided to me directly by you or your agent for one of the following reasons:

• To reply to enquiries about my services
• To visit you at your home address or mutually convenient place in order to plan the funeral content
• To contact you by telephone, email and paper communications
• To be able to make all the necessary arrangements on your behalf for the professional fulfilment of the funeral service as instructed by you and the Funeral Director
• To respond to feedback on my service and performance
• To complete tax and accounting records

What is the lawful basis for processing my data?

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the lawful bases I rely on for processing this information are:

• Your consent. You are able to remove your consent at any time. You can do this by contacting me or your Funeral Director
• I have a contractual obligation
• I need it to perform a public task

Who might I share your information with?

I will not pass your personal data on to any third parties without first obtaining your written consent. The third parties below may receive your personal data for the following purposes:

• To HMRC and my accountant as part of my accounting processes.

How long do I keep your information?

Your information is securely stored at my business address and on my laptop. I will retain your personal data for a period of six weeks beyond the date of the funeral to enable me to fulfil your requirements and respond to any queries or feedback after the date of the funeral. All data will be securely stored and then deleted with any paper copies shredded.

Your rights

Under data protection law, you have rights including:
Your right of access – You have the right to ask me for copies of your personal information
Your right to rectification – You have the right to ask me to rectify personal information you think is inaccurate. You also have the right to ask me to complete information you think is incomplete
Your right to erasure – You have the right to ask me to erase your personal information in certain circumstances
Your right to restriction of processing – You have the right to ask me to restrict the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances
Your right to object to processing – You have the the right to object to the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances
Your right to data portability – You have the right to ask that I transfer the personal information you gave me to another organisation, or to you, in certain circumstances
You are not required to pay any charge for exercising your rights. If you make a request, I have one month to respond to you.
